Current News July 14th 2007

  • 65 people attended this past meeting, last month was 72. But all in all we have been averaging around 60 people at the meetings I can remember last year we usually had about 30 people at each meeting, so we really have grown.

  • June 23rd there was a work party that consisted of the following members: Jim G, Guy, Keith R, and others (can't make them out from the photo's I got (soon to be up on the site) Thank you guys for all the hard work you did at updating and keeping the property in good working condition. They fixed up the pavilion, gave it a new roof and put in a center support beam to help hold the roof and also other supports for the roof. They put in a swing set, slide and sand box by the pavilion for the kids. They also fixed up the men’s room so that the urinal in the back now is proper. This past meeting Keith R. put in a light for the men’s room, the ladies already had one (not sure who put that one in). Now no more fumbling around in the dark!

  • Elections of new officers this next meeting (August 11th). Nominations were done on the July 14th meeting for President: Sean M., Vice President: Calvin, Secretary: Chris K., Treasure: Jim G. Voting will be August 11th.

  • July 21st Work Party. They will be building a Shed to house some club equipment.

  • Camping areas in the common area are on a first come basis. If you would like to make a more “permanent” location that you would like to fix up and make the place homier for yourself, it has been asked that you go up the trail by the pavilion at least 100 yards, and setup your spot there, and mark your spot with some kind of sign, so no one uses “your” area. At the meeting there was talk of a tractor with a wagon that is going to become available to help move equipment up to those locations, not sure when it will be available. Also it was asked that people camping in the common areas to not park there vehicles next to there sites, which are actually camp sites for the other people that show up. Please park them in the “parking lot”, remember if people can’t find a spot for there tent the only place they have to go is in the parking lot, to set up. Remember we have people showing up all hours of the day and night to camp out the night before the meeting, this past meeting there were 13 different groups of people spread out all over the place. (Dan B/Tim C, the guys from New York, Wayne, Shawn M, Calvin, Paul, Carly, Keith, Chris, Joe, John, Calvin’s Brother, I cant’ remember the last one) So camping spots are an important part of this all.

  • If you attend the meetings and wouldn't mind taking some notes for me, when I’m not there, for the newsletter, I would appreciate it. Even if it’s just 3 things that I can post would be great. You can email them to webmaster@goldinpa.com or if you want use the email form on the website to let me know what’s happening.

  • We have a landscaper who has volunteered to help get the property setup. Last month they went though and enlarged the main parking lot and people cut and weed whacked the grass in the common camping areas.

  • Phone service at the property. It’s kind of interesting what kind of phone service we get on our cell phones, I was checking around and it seems like the people that had Cellular One had no problems at all down in the valley, while us people that have ATT (Cingular) can’t really get service, although Wayne B. has been getting signals from 8:00pm to around 8:40pm by the gate each night of his 2 week stay at the property. I checked with 3 people with Cellular One and 2 people with ATT, let me know how good your service is down at the property, I think it would be interesting to see how everyone fairs down in the valley. I at one point had one of those antenna extension devices on my last ATT phone, last year, and was able to talk down at the pavilion around 10pm, my new cell doesn’t do anything, I have to be down in Greenville or a few miles down on RT 7 to get a signal.

  • Dredging now legal in PA! The guys are still working with the DEP to get things figured out how the permitting process is that makes it legal..

 GPAA & LDMA NEWS

  • If you haven’t heard yet the GPAA and LDMA have been sold by the Outdoor Channel to Tom Massie, son of the founder of the GPAA George Massie, so we will have to see what this is going to mean to the membership of the GPAA and the LDMA. Also what does this mean to the shows that are shown on the Outdoor channel? You see the Cable channel has reduced the length of an agreement to sell airtime to the clubs from 2012 down to the next 2 years. So will there be fewer shows, shown? Only time will tell.

 Future Events

  • 2007 Oct. 27th & 28th GPAA Gold Show Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA

What the other chapters around us are doing

Bald Eagle Gold Prospectors of America

  • They will be at the Gold Show in Carlisle in October 2007. There club will have a booth.

  • The will be holding a raffle of four (4) nuggets:  First prize will be a ½ oz, 2nd prize ¼ oz , 3rd and 4th place will each be a 1/8 oz nugget. They will be selling 1,500 tickets at $2.00 a ticket. They will draw the winning tickets on Sunday during the Gold Show.  They also say if all of the tickets should be sold before the Gold show, they will have another nugget available and use a spool of tickets for that drawing.

  •  Yard Stone – John & Lucille Matthew have purchased and donated a yard stone to the club to use as a raffle at the Carlisle gold show. Doug made the 1st motion, and Joe made a 2nd. This will be raffled off on Sunday at the gold show on roll tickets – tickets will be $1.00 each. Everyone was in favor.

  •  Bald Eagle Chapter has become incorporated there new legal name is “Bald Eagle Gold Prospectors of America” and they will have to file tax returns for the company they formed, also they can get checking accounts and a debit card.

  • This is from there July 2nd minutes: Butch spoke about the dredging bill. He’s had conversations with Dean Ransom about leasing or getting permits to dredge. Take out the permit in the club name permit is in the area of $200-300 then that section is considered “our stream” Not sure how they will police it to insure that the right people are in the right area. DER- water rights Vs game commission.

Mason Dixon chapter

June outing

  • Our club's first 3-Day Outing went great. All who came to the meeting and the members that stayed for the 3-days had a great time. Some of the members panned for gold. Others sat around just enjoying the fresh air and talking. Bryan made the chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs on the large grill he built for the club. The chicken was excellent, good job Bryan. Members brought everything from side salads and vegetables to cakes and desserts. It was all delicious. Jim & Marsha and John & Mary Lou brought along their Honda Brister's (4WD trail wagons) and were giving other members rides around the property. At the meeting Bryan discussed some of the new Pennsylvania Dredging Law. If the club buys a Dredging Permit then the members are allowed to use that permit on club leased properties or where ever the club specifies to use it. It was also brought up and voted on that we hold our July meeting at the Red Lion Property and if anyone wants to they can stay for 3 days (Fri., Sat. & Sun.). The vote was unanimous to have the meeting at Red Lion. The subject was brought up since there was not enough GPAA club members to hold a meeting at the Latimore Creek Property in May. At our July Outing in Red Lion Joe will give lessons on how to use a dowsing rod. Joe will also demonstrate how to ground balance your metal detector, if you have a metal detector bring it along. • They are asking there members to save all the lead, iron, glass from there prospecting operations because there is an upcoming changes in the Ohio's laws that may put steep restrictions on prospecting in Ohio and they want this garbage collected so they can show it as to how they are cleaning up the environment.

  • They are also starting to get prepared for gold rush days that is coming up in the next few months, getting things like the electrical hook ups for the campers straightened out and such.
